Dhar, standing on the other side of Selel from Mistara, watches as the druidess grabs to either side of her sister’s blood soaked shirt and pulls, tearing the shirt open down the middle. Kesh, standing next to Mistara, steadies several of the arrow shafts as Dhar reaches over with his dagger and slits the top to let the fabric move around the shafts. Mistara releases the slippery material as it makes a wet, sloshing sound as it falls free and hangs from the table. Blood smeared on his almost sister’s skin reminded him of the Aman battle field when the orcs tried to take Aman’s castle, but in a smaller scale.
A young maiden offered a small basin full of warm water for Mistara to dip her hands in. The druidess cleans the blood and grime off her hands before she starts her work on the wounds.
Placing his dagger off to the side, Dhar takes the offered sponges from the basin of warm slightly soaped water, steeped with healing herbs Kesh holds out to him and proceeds to gently remove the blood and grime from his sister’s skin, while Kesh swaps clean sponges for the bloody used ones. Dhar occasionally glances over at Mistara as she prepares herself and proceeds to scan her sister’s body to understand the depth of the injuries. Glancing over at Lord Nexxen, Dhar also notices his concentration focused on his wife and wonders if he could be so serene if this were his Seron vell on the table instead.
Softly Mistara touches her sister’s cheek with one hand, while the other is hovering above her chest, about two inches off the body. The druidess closes her eyes as the familiar white glow, to those who have seen her heal previously, emanates from both her palm. As this continues, the worry that seems apparent in her feature seems to ease a bit as she slowly opens her eyes, and says, “
I was worried at the original outlook of things, but it seems the fatal arrow missed her heart. And there seems to be no poison in any of the arrow that struck her.”
She sighs and mutters under her breath, “
I hate this part.” Looking at some of the tools that are being held out to her by another maiden behind her, she picks a small pointy dagger. Thrusting the dagger pointed end towards Dharasha, he places his hand around the blade without touching the metal. Slowly, the blade starts to heat up until the tip starts to gently glow red and the fire elf removes his hand. Mistara examines the blade, waving it a little to cool the blade some so it doesn’t prematurely cauterize the wound. When satisfied that the dagger’s blade is the right temperature, she nods to Dhar, who takes hold of one of the arrow’s shaft. Having estimated that this was a medium depth wound, Mistara carefully makes a small incision around the arrow shaft, having noted the twin lacerations radiating from the shaft in opposite directions. Cautiously teasing open the wound, slowly prying the skin from the wood, she slides the blade ever closer to the arrow’s head until she has the dagger aligned with the barbed shaft. With head not far from the wound, Mistara watches down the shaft as she meticulously teases the skin away from the arrowhead while pacing Dhar with the arrow’s extraction. The room is so very quiet that he believes everyone else is also holding their breath as well. When the arrow finally clears the skin, a collective sigh can be heard and a small current of air can almost be felt in the room, or so the fire elf believes.
A loud “clunk” of the arrow being placed on the table resounds through the hall as the druidess can faintly be heard incanting into the wound. A gentle white glow moves from her free hand deep into the hole oozing blood. Dharasha tries to keep up with the blood so to keep the wound visible to the tender ministrations of the team. Mistara finally nods to Kesh who takes a generous dollop of poultice on a pestle from its mortar and gently packs the wound. Kesh holds it down, while Mistara casts another spell inside where the white light seems to knit together the deeper parts of the wound. The blood flowing out of Selel’s wound shuts off as if someone closed a valve. Rinsing their hands from offered bowls of water and drying their hands on fresh clean warm cloths, The Druidess and the fire elf move to the next wound, while Kesh cleans the outside wound area; sews the wound closed; and lays a clean dressing across the freshly stitched wound.
When finally four near twin arrows lay side by side on the table by the patient, Mistara takes a moment to stretch and straighten her back. Turning to Lord Nexxen, she says, “
I believe that is all of them, however, in a moment I will re-examine her to see how well she is taking to the healing.” Dhar and Kesh, with the aid of some of the staff, address the cleaning of the area, picking up the spent tools and placing back on trays for their removal. The arrows are gathered as they are and placed on their own tray for later examination.
